OpenStreetMap ThingMatcher

by Jez

How to match up a list of addressed objects (e.g. doctor’s surgeries) with OSM. It sounds trivial but it’s practical and useful. Geolocations obtained from OSM will be much more accurate than a location obtained from geocoding the postcode. The names in the list don’t match the names in OSM so we need to look for a node within 100m of a geocoded input address. You could use this process for any type of object: postboxes; blue plaques; pubs…and then add primary ids to the OSM record or add missing nodes.
